Terms of Use
Last updated: 20 September 2026
These Terms of Use apply to the Spencer Hofmans Irish History service, including the Irish History by Spencer plugin and the historical companion material available through spencerhofmans.com.
Purpose of the service
The service is provided for informational, educational and research purposes. It gives access to published historical companion material concerning Irish history, including the United Irishmen, the Rebellion of 1798, Daniel O’Connell, Young Ireland, the Great Famine and related nineteenth-century topics.
The service does not claim to provide a complete account of Irish history and may not cover subjects outside the scope of the published historical guides.
Historical information and fiction
Historical companion material is intended to support further exploration of history and is based on published historical sources and research.
Historical fiction is clearly distinguished from factual historical material. Novels, fictional characters, reconstructed scenes and other fictional elements should not be treated as documentary or primary historical evidence.
Where the service identifies historical fiction or further reading, this is provided separately from factual historical information.
No professional advice
The service does not provide legal, financial, medical, political, academic or other professional advice. Users should consult appropriate primary sources, qualified professionals or specialist scholarship where authoritative guidance is required.
Accuracy and availability
Reasonable efforts are made to keep the published material accurate and available. However, historical interpretation may change, sources may conflict, and errors or omissions may occur.
The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. No guarantee is made that the service will always be available, complete, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose.
Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, original text, historical companion material, branding and other original content published by Spencer Hofmans remain the intellectual property of Spencer Hofmans.
Third-party works, quotations, images, archives, publications and other material remain the property of their respective rights holders.
Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of intellectual property to users.

The service may link to or rely on third-party platforms and services, including AI platforms, hosting providers, WordPress.com, archives, publishers or external websites.
Those third parties operate independently and are governed by their own terms, privacy policies and availability. Spencer Hofmans is not responsible for the content, operation or privacy practices of third-party services.
